2008 Alties
2007 was considered by many to be one of the greatest years in gaming history, and 2008 had a lot to live up to. Personally, I would have to say that 2008 surpassed last year. It started out somewhat slow, but we’ve been hammered by solid title after solid title over the last few months, and I’m still yet to try a number of games that I was anticipating.
So with the new year under way, the time has come to pay tribute to the best of the best in ‘08. Last year, The 2007 Alties were pretty much just an “Editor’s Choice” kind of deal, but this year we have decided to open the floor up for everyone to voice their opinions.
The games included in the categories are of course what we consider to be titles that are applicable to what we do around here. So in other words, don’t expect to see something like Mortal Kombat vs DC or any Wii games as options.

*Update: Jan. 9 (late evening) - Ok, so I have closed the polls a little earlier than originally listed. They were set to close automatically in a few hours anyway, and I wanted to get the results up before turning in!

January 1st, 2009 at 7:09 pmWhat was good about 2007 except halo 3 and COD4??? No way this was the best year in gaming history! In my opinion 2004 was the ultimate year in gaming (well for xbox) because the halo series was first brought online and there was a TON of games released, not to mention the anticipation of TS3 due to come out early the next year.

I said it was considered “one” of the best “by many” - largely due to the the amount of quality games released in short succession such as BioShock, Halo 3, TimeShift, COD: 4, Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed, etc, etc.
I’m not sure what I would consider to be the best year in gaming history, but ‘08 tops ‘04 for sure.

I must admit 2008 was an excellent year for gaming when you put the wii on the tables. I will never get sick of playing mario kart wii online. I just wish the could expand it like halo and add extra tracks. It looks like 2009 is going to be just as promising for wii with the release of the conduit and mad world! Also 2007 saw the release of mario galaxy so thats another il give to 2007, though I didnt get my hands on it till 08 so Im going to add that to my love for 2008’s gaming

So what you are saying is that 08 would be great because of the release of “X” game coming in ‘09? You big silly. Why don’t we discuss the worst year in gaming? 1982-83 doesn’t count.
besides we all know 2003 was the best year in gaming and one game made that happen.

What was the game from 2003 that made it the best year in gaming? 2001-2002 was halo and 2004 was halo 2, I think 2003 was missing something, apart from NFS underground which was amazing! Oh was it GTA vice city?
Worst year in gaming was 1986 because I didn’t even know what a video game was until 1987 when dark castle was released on macintosh!!

I know, I’m a big jerk face.First game on a console? Jeez…something on Atari….maybe Pitfall or Space Invaders. First video game I ever played was possibly something on an IBM PS/2 PC like Math Blaster or King’s Quest I. Odds are that it was some edu-game played at school. That was a long time ago, so it’s hard to say for sure.
