Resident Evil 5 Trailer

re5.jpgAs many of you are aware, GT TV aired the world premiere of the trailer for the highly anticipated Resident Evil 5 yesterday evening.

Now I was a fan of the series years ago during the N64 and Playstation days. Resident Evil 2 was a staple in my N64 collection, but since then, I actually haven’t touched an RE game.

Although my RE skills will need some refining, I have to say that I’m fairly excited about the new installment that’s on the way. From what I saw of Resident Evil 4, the series has come a long way. It appears as though the fifth entry looks to expand upon the evolution and reinvention of the series that was started with RE 4.

The visuals shown in the trailer look pretty sharp and the game should be a non-stop thrill ride from start to finish. You can check out the video after the click. Read the rest…

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

Available Control Options: Default & Southpaw

Well, it’s time to take on the Strogg again, I guess, this time via your Xbox 360 or PS3. It’s been a number of years since I played a Quake game and I don’t think I’ve missed much, really. Fans of COD4 and Frontlines are pretty well going to stick with those ones after trying this game.

In any case, Default and Southpaw controls are available for both on foot and land vehicle controls. Once you hit the skies, it’s a bit of a different story for flight vehicles. In this case, you get to pick from two presets:

Flight Controls Option 1
Left Stick: Altitude/Turn
Right Stick: Look/Roll/Decoy (Push)

Flight Controls Option 2
Left Stick: Altitude/Roll
Right Stick: Look/Turn/Decoy (Push)

Sound complicated? It’s not really… you’ll have your Southpaw when you’re runnin’ & gunnin’ and that’s about all you really need to worry about. Legacy players, on the other hand, are forgotten about once again. But keep playing COD4 and you’ll be just fine… Legacy players aren’t really missing anything here, in my humble opinion. BIOSHOCK FINDS A NEW HOME ON PS3

bioshock_pc_demo-copy.jpg

Word from publisher 2KGames, a Take-Two Interactive subsidiary, confirmed today that Bioshock is headed to the PS3 in October, making the jump from being a Windows and 360 exclusive. There is a lot of speculation around the net of new content for stellar 2007 title but there is no official word from 2K Marin on what, if any, content will be added to the new release. Either way this should be great news for those of you that only have a PS3.

Far Cry 2 Tech Demo

As I’ve said before, I wasn’t a huge fan of Far Cry Instincts: Predator for the Xbox 360. But I have to say that Far Cry 2 is looking incredibly impressive. Watch this video from Ubidays 2008 and the visuals will blow your mind.

Now I’m [pretty] sure that what we’re looking at here is PC footage. But I would imagine that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are still going to look fairly sharp as well. Should be a good game, and let’s hope that it will cater to our control needs.

Enjoy the footage and expect more game reports soon!

Our final word on Haze: No Legacy in the full version

Sorry Legacy fans. It has been confirmed by Derek Littlewood of Free Radical Design that Haze will not offer Legacy controls in the retail version of the game.

The interview is posted over on the official Haze boards, and you’ll note that the first question is regarding Legacy controls. Now he has stated that Legacy could be included, depending on the reaction of gamers.

So this is a bit of a set back for us all - not just Legacy gamers. Remember, this game is published by Ubisoft. Many of you in this community fought hard for the inclusion of alternative controls in GRAW, and since then all of their games have been accessible to us all thanks to those efforts.

I’m already over on the boards as ‘Legacy_Player.’ I wasn’t able to sign up as 2Three (Ubi board names can’t start with a number). I hope that some of you will join me to see if we can’t get this fixed.

We all need to band together here, even you Southpaw guys should come over and show some support. Otherwise, the successful GRAW campaign will no longer be relevant, and the game developers that got us started with Legacy will likely not include this control style in future games - unless we all speak up as a community.

The Next 007 Game: Quantum of Solace

007.jpg

Let’s face facts here, guys – 2008 has gotten off to a rocky start for us. That said, we’re going to take a quick moment to examine some of the crap we’ve put up with so far.

First, we had Turok omitting any form of alternate controls. The series that got many of you started with Southpaw left you high and dry. Then we had the Frontlines Legacy garbage, and GTA IV let many of you down as far as controls were concerned. Additionally, the recent Haze demo skipped out on Legacy, even though this game was developed by the GoldenEye crew.

But all of a sudden, things are looking up for us. You’re all aware that Gears of War 2 is on the way, and it’s looking tight. Also in the works, which has me quite excited, is Quantum of Solace. Brought to you by Activision, this is the next James Bond game and it’s set to be released in conjunction with the film of the same title.

Gone are the days of crappy 007 games by EA and it’s time for something new and fresh. The game is going to be utilizing the COD 4 engine, so we know already that it’s going to look great and the controls should be spot on.

Left 4 Dead has serious potential

Mike Booth’s Turtle Rock Studios is responsible for this game’s development, which is currently slated to be released on the Xbox 360 and PC. And it’s honestly my most anticipated game right now, which sucks because there is no set release date for the title.

Left 4 Dead

Now I love me some zombies, but for me the most appealing aspect of L4D is the multiplayer campaign and deathmatch modes. Turtle Rock Studios is really trying to create a new style of co-op by overrunning players with hordes of zombies, thereby forcing them to work as a team. This should make for genuinely unique co-op gameplay or at least cause a lot of squabbling amongst teammates. Good times. Adding to all this goodness is the AI monitoring system, which will generate zombies based on player/team productivity. This means that the enemies aren’t assigned to single locations on the map and players can’t determine where the zombies will come from, no matter how many times they play a level. This should give it good replay value. Read the rest…

Shock of the Century: Activision Confirms COD5

callofduty3.jpg

Bet you didn’t see that one coming, now did you? Call of Duty 5 has officially been confirmed. Although we didn’t really need an official word on this since we all knew it was on the way.

In any case, this is what Activision had to say about the upcoming fifth installment of their prize FPS series, which is being developed by Treyarch:

“For [the next] Call of Duty, we’ll bringing the intensity of the recent Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare title to yet a new military theater to engage our significantly larger user base, which nearly doubled last year as new users came into the franchise.”

Ok. Sounds good, I suppose. Read the rest…

Gears of War 2 Footage!

Yes, I stayed in on a Friday night to make sure I didn’t miss the world premiere of this video on GameTrailers TV that shows off some of the Gears of War 2 campaign. Here it is, and it looks amazing:

After being disappointed by the Haze demo omitting Legacy, this footage has lifted my gaming spirit. Gears of War 2 is currently scheduled to be released in November of 2008 and I personally cannot wait.

So, what did you think of the video and are you as excited about this game as I am?
