Mirror’s Edge

By now you are all very probably familiar with EA and DICE’s upcoming first person action game, Mirror’s Edge. A number of fresh screen shots have recently been circulating around the net, and you all know that this is EA and DICE’s innovative attempt at creating a first person, action oriented game where you’ll need to rely more on acrobatics and hand to hand combat instead of your trigger finger.

Seems like an interesting approach, sure. Although around here, it’s usually a letdown for us when games are made by EA and DICE. Based on the controls present in Battlefield: Bad Company, I think it’s a fair assumption that this game will not support alternative or customizable controls. I could be wrong of course, but I’m sure many of you are also not encouraged based on EA and DICE’s past titles. Read the rest…

Unreal Tournament 3 Controls

Yes it’s official, I can confirm that Unreal Tournament 3 has all four thumbstick configurations (default, southpaw, legacy & legacy-southpaw) plus three button mapping options (came out in Australia on 1/7 much to my surprise).

This is great news for us legacy and legacy-southpaw users who have only seen one other game (R6V2) this year to include our thumbstick configurations. Keep up the good work Epic!!

ALT-CONTROLS FIGURE MAKES KOTAKU

I really respect Kotaku and feel they are the top website for general gaming news also, they have pretty well done articles and reviews although they are few and far between. I awoke this morning to a great surprise as our good modder friend RonDCrasher was given a post of recognition on the site for his work where he managed to get 360 controller working and into into a PS3 controller shell and vice versa. Ron did great work on these mods and I honestly feel that all of his work is top notch, these mods in particular really stand out and I’ll go so far as to say they outshine similar one’s done my famed modder Ben Heckendorn.

If you have an account at Kotaku I think it would be really nice to post a thanks or congrats to Ron for all of the great work he has done for our community. The southpaw mod I bought from him still runs like a champ and has afforded me the opportunity to play many a game I would otherwise have been unable to enjoy.

Thanks for all of your great work Ron and welcome to Internet fame! :)

I’m sure all of you Halo fans, that frequent Bungie.net, have already heard that Monday July 7th will see the release of a new map for Halo. The reason for this free map….July 7th is “Bungie Day”. Yeah, I have no idea but Bungie seems to be real fond of the number 7. Seventh Column, Master chief is the lucky spartan, I dunno maybe Squiffy can answer a question that nobody is asking. The FREE map Coldstorage is a remake of that crazy teleporter-infested map, Chill Out, from the original Halo multiplayer playlist.

In addition to a free map, the Legendary map pack see a 25% price reduction from 800 to 600 MS points. If you buy the Legendary map on or before the 7th you will still get the “Pro Bonus” which allows you to share up to 24 files as opposed to the standard 6 slots allotted to each player normally and is normally priced at 750 points.

Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway

For those of you who were annoyed by the fact that Treyarch is bringing the COD series back to its WWII origins, here’s another one for you – Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway.

From Gearbox Software and Ubisoft comes this tactical first person shooter, which is scheduled for an August 26th release on the Xbox 360 and PS3. To me, the game play seems very reminiscent of the Rainbow Six series. You’re able to take cover from a third person perspective as seen in R6 and you can give commands to your squad mates in a similar fashion as the famed Tom Clancy FPS series. It’s a different twist for a WWII game, albeit a return to very familiar settings.
