Poll: Do you use inverted aiming?

Just curious how you all prefer to aim. I use inversion, and I’m interested in seeing which style will be more common around here.

The poll is set to close on February 10. Thanks in advance for your vote.

FEAR 2: Project Origin - Southpaw, No Legacy

project-origin.jpg

Much like F.E.A.R. Files, the Xbox 360 demo for the highly-anticipated Project Origin offers Southpaw, but (as usual) Legacy has been omitted. And I can’t see any reason why the options wouldn’t be exactly the same on the PS3 counterpart.

So this is good news for our Southpaw readers, but once again Legacy guys feel the sting. And although it’s likely too late to expect any changes in the retail version (out Feb. 10) since demos normally reflect final controls, now would still be a good time to get in touch with Monolith to plead our case for a Legacy update via the first patch. I already have and will post any information on that should it become available, though I expect to receive the standard “thanks for contacting us, we don’t care will review the issue” sort of response.

On a more positive note, thank you SAKY and Matt for checking out the controls.

Amored Core: For Answer - Full Customization

armored-core-for-answer.jpg

So now is that time of year where we’ve probably all beaten our X-Mas games a couple times (with the exception of Fallout 3 of course, you might still be right in the thick of that one…) and you’ve likely tried most of the high profile releases that we were assaulted with from October till year end. I like to call this “the post-holiday slump” where at this point, you might be scrounging around for something new to play, and lo-and-behold, barely anything is coming out. What do you do? You start picking up games from a few months back that looked somewhat cool, but were ultimately overlooked in favor of the bigger franchise titles.

A perfect example of this would be Armored Core: For Answer. Did you know that another Armored Core game was out? I didn’t. But apparently it was released back in September (October for EU, and November for AUS) and much like Armored Core 4, it offers full customization.

Killzone 2’s (long) Intro

Kotaku has posted the above video clip of Killzone 2’s introduction and first in-game cinematic. There are a few seconds of gameplay footage towards the end if you can manage to sit through all six minutes. I couldn’t, and skipped ahead. ;)

This game will (finallly) be out the last week of February and the beta supposedly supported Southpaw, but no Legacy option. This will probably reflect the control options of the final build.

Resident Evil 5 Demo Available Jan. 26 (Xbox 360)

re-5.jpg

Just overheard on X-Play, which I’ve got flairing away in the background, that a two-level Resident Evil 5 demo will be available on January 26th for the Xbox 360. If you recall, the first time this was released it was only available in Japan.

In case any of you missed SAKY’s coverage of this game, Resident Evil 5 does not support true Southpaw or Legacy schemes, however there are a number of presets to pick from, outlined here, complete with control configuration screenshots for your review.

Now the rest of you will have your chance to sample the game and test out the controls. Hopefully you’ll find one of the four presets to be comfortable, but please feel free to share your feedback on the play mechanics and let us know if you discover any issues with the controls.

SOCOM 1.30 Patch Adds Southpaw & Scout (Legacy)

socom-patch.jpg

According to one of our readers, the recently released patch to correct SOCOM: Confrontation’s numerous bugs & issues also added support for alternate controls.

PS3 players will now be able to use the Southpaw, and Scout (Legacy) presets.

Thanks need to go out to Patrick for letting us know. This is definitely a good start for 2009, and here’s hoping that an update to include Legacy in Left 4 Dead is next.

UPDATE: Customizable game controls at the firmware level for PS3

A Happy New Year to the readers of Alt-Controls.com.

We have now reached 100 people who have signed the customizable game controls for the PS3 petition. :-)

I took the opportunity to resend the petition to the support team of the PS3. This time I got a more promising answer from them:

Hello … ,

We sympathize with your situation. And your email will be reviewed.

Regards,
EPM C.

Check out this little gem…

Stumbling around the interwebs, searching for stories about Legacy controls, I found this incredible article! This is a must read. Someone has gotten through to Gabe Newell at Valve, and he’s promised Legacy controls in Left 4 Dead coming soon. I was all too excited to go check my Xbox 360 copy of The Orange Box, but alas no Legacy to be found there quite yet. Gabe doesn’t specifically state that Legacy will come to The Orange Box as well, but that was the game that sparked the whole conversation. Here’s hoping! Check it out here.

New 50 Cent Game out 1/20/09

logo.jpg

Hmm. Not the greatest start for 2009 shooters. I’m surprised they’re even making another one of these games considering how horrid the first one was. Guess it goes to show that if you slap a celebrity’s image on the box of a game, it will sell.

Here is the info on this sure-to-be-craptastic game courtesy of Xbox.com:

50 Cent is back!

Play as 50 Cent, the world’s biggest hip-hop star, in this fast-paced action shooter! You and the G-Unit battle across two war-torn countries to collect your payday and exact your revenge on those who have crossed you in 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.

  • Heavy duty arsenal: Bring the heat with more than 20 high-powered realistic weapons.
  • Online multiplayer: 50 never runs alone. Try the co-op online multiplayer mode with the G-Unit.
  • New brutal counter-kill system: An all-new interactive counter-kill system gives you the control to finish off the enemy.
  • Incredible music and sound: More than 40 tracks from “Fiddy” and G-Unit and 10 classic music videos are included.

Now being a fan of rock/metal music and quality games, I think I’ll pass on this one. No offense meant to any Fiddy fans we may have hanging around here. :)

*Update (Jan. 19): This game’s release appears to have been pushed back to the end of February.
