Playing Through the Call of Duty 4 Campaign

Yes, we’ve covered this game before. Yes, you know it’s an alt-control friendly game. And of course, we’ve all been playing this title for a while now. But much to my surprise, many gamers that I’ve spoken with haven’t played through the single player campaign. Perhaps everyone has become too hooked on playing multiplayer online. And I suppose that I’m an old school gamer, because to me, there’s nothing better than playing through an intense campaign alone. I know most of you prefer online play, and that’s fine, but you definitely owe it to yourself to check out single player if you own the game.

It’s a short one, mind you. But it was a blast. Well-crafted levels, great graphics, intense shootouts and a fairly decent storyline make this one a must-play. Infinity Ward got it right, no doubt about that. Considering it’s a war game, you’d be surprised about the level of mission variety. There’s the classic COD levels with massive firefights, a level that requires you to provide air support, a mission where you chase down a fugitive, escape a sinking ship, rescue a hostage on a plane that is about to crash, and much more. I’m barely scraping the surface.

And of course, the best mission of the year in my opinion is the “All Ghillied Up” level. You’re in a camouflage suit and you need to follow your commanding officer while trekking through enemy territory undetected to make your way to a hotel rooftop for an assassination. This level was tremendous fun, and for you “achievement whores” out there, if you manage to make it through the mission without alerting any enemies, you’ll net 20G.

We alt-control players miss out on enough campaigns due to the lack of support for our control preferences. So when we have a single player experience of this caliber at our disposal, we need to take advantage. Take a break from playing online with your friends and work your way through the COD4 campaign. It’s worth it.
