Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Beta (PS3)

Thanks to the good folks at FilePlanet we have managed to get our hands on a beta code for BF:BC2. While most Battlefield games have omitted any kind of alternate control styles, the efforts of our readers have opened communication between developer DICE and our community. Slowly, more control options have been added into this developer’s games. So it is with great joy that I can report that said efforts have finally resulted in a buffet of control options for Bad Company 2.
As far as I can recall, Bad Company 2 easily has the widest variety of controls options of any DICE/EA developed game to date. Diving right into the controls options reveals several choices for control layouts. Options included are southpaw, legacy and SP-Legacy, in addition to several button layouts. But what is really great is that all of these options are also available for land and air vehicles.
As a southpaw player I find that one logical setting is most always omitted by developers in a southpaw scheme. Analog clicks never get swapped when controls are set to southpaw, thus mixing up look and move options. Not a big deal but sometimes annoying. With BF:BC2 we find that this has not been overlooked.
I’ve seen you in the forums and have spoken with with some of you personally…you folks that like to invert the X axis on aiming. Sadly there is no such option in this beta, only the standard Y axis inversion. Feel free to voice your opinion on this issue.
While Bad Company 2 represents a huge leap forward in control options for DICE, I would encourage them and all other developers to consider giving players a means to customize controls in any way they see fit. As always we ask you all to make yourselves heard but to do so in a civil manner.
A BIG thanks to DICE for all of their hard work, time, and effort. Good luck on your March launch!

December 8th, 2009 at 1:27 pmGood stuff indeed. Its funny though that we need to commend them for doing the “logical” thing. All the same, a step in the right direction. Did not buy the other game for this reason alone… hope this time I can.

January 12th, 2010 at 9:50 pmThat’s fantastic news. I didn’t buy the original either because of the lack of control options.
I didn’t like MW2 very much, glad I’ll be able to check this one out!

January 21st, 2010 at 10:11 pmYeah its all good to have these many button and stick variations, but on the front of the pad, where one has the zoom and fire buttons, there should be more variations in my opinion….
okay we have the R1 and L1 buttons as a zoom and fire and vice versa…
but its also important to have the R2 and L2 as zoom and fire or vice versa..
i think that dice have overlooked this and could you please put this thought on forward to them,im feeling the game, big time, but this is the only thing thats putting me off it, and iam sure that iam not alone in this dilema !!!

January 28th, 2010 at 5:23 amI too am concerned about the controls, i prefer my zoom (aim down sights) on the left trigger, and the fire button on the right trigger, Iv’e played games before now with the fire on L1 an i just cant get used to it, it doesnt feel right. If this could be implemented, that would sell the game to me instantly!

The best thing to do would be to post your concerns on the official feedback forums.

February 3rd, 2010 at 8:34 amI will not buy this if I can’t switch zoom and fire to R2,L2. I think its stupid for a game not to have this simple option

February 4th, 2010 at 1:02 pmThe one concern i have about the controls are the recent changes they posted from the beta. It appears guns will have poor accuracy when they are fired while moving.
Now since I use the legacy stick layout I tend to move/strafe around a little while aiming, I hope this doesn’t ruin my guns accuracy. Does anyone know if this is the case? I will be trying the demo out later since it should be on the psn today, I will post again once I test it out.

March 9th, 2010 at 1:50 amI’m glad I stopped by here today.
I bought the original BFBC, but had to sell it after finishing story mode, because of lacking Legacy-controls. Online became impossible. I’ve bought every DICE-game so far, but stopped before BF1943, as I couldn’t play any of them online. I simply assumed that BFBC2 would not include Legacy, so I wasn’t planning on buying it. Now it’s a definite.
Please do the same for Mirror’s Edge 2 and other offline games as well, and I will buy each and every one of them (and convince my friends to do likewise).
Oh, and a patch for older games wouldn’t hurt either. Like 1943. I’ll buy that too if it gets Legacy.
