Best of 2007 for the Rest of Us!

the-alties.jpg

Better late than never I guess, but the editors of Alt-Controls.com have finally gotten together and decided to pay tribute to the best games of 2007.

This past year in gaming was incredible. For the first time in my gaming life, I was not able to keep up with trying all the class-A titles that just kept coming and coming. 2008 has a lot to live up to, and I’m not sure if we’re going to see another year like ’07 for some time.

2007 was also filled with many ups and downs for alt-control players. We got to play a ton of great games including Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, but there were also a number of disappointments as well, such as BioShock and Mass Effect.

In any case, the games we that did get to take part in and enjoy are being honored with what we are calling the prestigious “Alties” (SAKY coined that one..!) and we hope to make this an annual tradition here at Alt-Controls.com. To be eligible to win, the game simply has to offer at least one alternative control option. There are some exceptions, as you’ll see below, but without further delay, here they are:

Most Accessible
Unreal Tournament 3 (PS3)

Most Alt-Control Friendly Developer
Tie: Infinity Ward, Bungie, UbiSoft

Biggest Letdown

Tie: Mass Effect for Southpaw players, The Orange Box for Legacy players

Best of the Rest (no alt-controls but was a good game with a modded controller)
BioShock

Moment of the Year
Taking down the Scarab Tank in Halo 3

Best Game You Didn’t Play
The Darkness

The Piece of Crap Award
Soldier of Fortune

Best Single-player Mission
“All Ghillied Up” – Call of Duty 4

Game of the Year
Call of Duty 4

There you have it. Our pick for Game of the Year should not be a surprise if you are at all familiar with this site or its writers. :)

Here’s to another great gaming year for 2008!

GTA IV… we don’t know anything yet. Rockstar is very hush-hush for now unfortunately. I’m also looking forward to BIA though :)

Regardless of control scheme i love when games that would benifit from it use japanese and english subs: disgriea series-even the psp version, odin sphere and some other ps2
games-fortunatly they’re rpg’s,stratigy or 2d so control isn’t a problem. Also while not japanese panzer dragoon used it’s own language. For rpg’s it draws me in more making it even more far away.

Very nice list though i’m suprised you didn’t have
best use of alt controls in a handheld game.
    ds’s metroid hunters,brain age 1,2 and psp’s portible op’s
layout d and syphon filter’s “advanced ” mode are all great canidates.

Next big games gta 4 and mgs4 hope they’re great.
Also getting the very friendly lego games and mario kart and okami. See everyone online.

    @QUINTISON

DS and Wii games are accessable to all with their simple and intuitave controllers thus the reason such games were not mentioned. PSP, well it’s a southpaw controller and there are no other options because the portable system has only one analog…..there is our the reason for excluding it.

RPGs? C’mon Quint I know you man, keep it on topic this isn’t an RPG forum.
