BIA Hell’s Highway Controls

Well, I aimed to have a post up about this game on launch day, but unfortunately was not able to try it out until yesterday evening. I think my second Xbox 360 is also on its way to an untimely death (or Red Ring of Death) but I was still able to check out the controls and tool around with the game for a while.
I can confirm that Southpaw is available, but Legacy is missing. There are a number of button configurations including Standard, Ring World, Tour of Duty, Tactical Six and… Legacy. A word of warning to our Legacy players, this option is only another button layout and it does not alter the sticks. When it comes to stick configuration, your only options will be Default and Lefty. Now, for Legacy players with a modded controller, I would say that you’ll find this one to be fairly accessible and comfortable.
After playing the game for about an hour until my Xbox began to make some odd grunting noises, I can say that the game seems pretty decent. Visually, it reminds me a lot of Battlefield: Bad Company and it plays very similarly to the RSV series. The graphics are polished, however I found that there were too many cinematics to sit through, at least in the beginning. I would have liked to play this a bit more before posting but a number of you have been asking on this one and anxiously waiting for the control info. You’re welcome
From what I’ve seen, I’d recommend checking it out for sure if you’re into war games. It’s a good distraction for the time being until Gears of War 2 and other highly anticipated titles come out.

September 27th, 2008 at 4:32 pmDont think il buy this one, might just go hire it. Never been a fan of this series, though gearbox are a good company and seem to know what the are doing (apart from legacy setup!).
Too bad about your xbox, should try the towel trick, or even better open it up and unplug the fans. Then leave it on to cook for about 10 minutes to let the solder melt under the GPU to fix any cold joins. You could even do the x-clamp fix, works a charm. Ive fixed 2 so far with the RROD and have a third coming my way. You can pick up a kit to do it off ebay for under $10, fairly easy aswell, plenty of guides on the net. -

@mclovin
or you could send it to MS and get them to fix it for free.
“hire”….. sound just like my friend in NZ

September 30th, 2008 at 10:59 amso i pre-ordered this game since i’ve been waiting years for the series to come out on the next gen systems and i’m a huge WW2 fan and i’ve played all the older games. I get home throw the game in…and there’s no Legacy. every other game in the series had it and i’ve been using legacy controls since i picked up a FPS. I picked it up from the goldeneye days.
I looked around but had a little trouble finding it, but i was wondering, what are some reasons for leaving out certain control schemes? do developers purposely do this? is budgeting a reason? why can’t all controls just be 100% customizable to broaden the appeal and playability to all gamers?? any information would be great.

September 30th, 2008 at 12:48 pmI wish I could answer those questions….
I tend to think that perhaps the companies have a viewpoint that the ends don’t justify the means. In other words, they think that the number of players that require customizable or alternate control schemes do not make up enough of the sales percentage to warrant the development costs.
This of course, isn’t true.
There are many, many gamers that require alternate controls, and all would benefit from fully customizable options.
The key is to get developers to understand this.

September 30th, 2008 at 2:02 pmthanks for the information…i just figured out it was you who posted on the gearbox forums and that’s where i made my original post. i was disappointed with Bad Company, but this was a huge letdown as I love this series and expected a great game. even though the reviews weren’t great, i was even more disappointed by the fact that i wouldn’t have been able to play even if i wanted to since the game felt “left handed.”
