BIOSHOCK FINDS A NEW HOME ON PS3

Word from publisher 2KGames, a Take-Two Interactive subsidiary, confirmed today that Bioshock is headed to the PS3 in October, making the jump from being a Windows and 360 exclusive. There is a lot of speculation around the net of new content for stellar 2007 title but there is no official word from 2K Marin on what, if any, content will be added to the new release. Either way this should be great news for those of you that only have a PS3.

However, you may not want to start frothing at the mouth just yet as many of you may recall that the original XBOX release offered no options in the way of control layouts however, the game was quite accessible with a southpaw and legacy controller mods. With a legacy mod, hacking the machines could, instead, be operated with the D-pad and the only real annoyance was found in using the circular weapon selection menu which pauses the game but requires that both analogs be used simultaneously for choosing a tonic or weapon placed diagonally in the menu. Optionally, a player could scroll through the weapons in real time using the left and right bumpers at the the expense of having the game pause. In summary, in no way was a controller mod crippling to use in this game. Legacy players, as usual had it a bit harder than everyone else….but you folks like challenges right? Right?!

My opinion, BIOSHOCK was a great game and the atmosphere is what really set it apart. The game was designed only with the intention of being a great single-player title and that came through in it’s presentation and ability to pull the player in the world of Rapture. Without any serious additions or change to the original title I can’t see myself picking up this game a second time, and really nothing should be changed as the original was pure gold, except for the lack of alternative control options. Perhaps 2K Marin will see fit to add some options to the PS3 version but with the 360 version never seeing a patch for controls I would be willing bet a lot of money that such a thing won’t happen.

I think it’s a pretty safe assumption that the PS3 version will not be offering alternative or customizable controls as seen in the 360 version.

Speaking of which, now is a good time to remind everyone about our BioShock 2 petition that we have on the go. If you haven’t lent your signature to it yet, well, get going..! :)
