Left 4 Dead 2 Demo: Second Verse, Same as the First

Yes, it is I, SAKY! I am alive and well, just short on funds and as a result short on coverage material. So donate if you can!
We got our hands on the early demo today and, as suspected, there is nothing new added in way of control options for the second installment of Left 4 Dead. I’m glad that Valve has added Legacy out of the box this year. If you recall the original was given Legacy via a patch over XBL. I WAS hoping for a little more from this year’s installment of frantic zombie slaying but it’s almost a given that little will come of hope alone.
As always, a screen shot of the stick options can be found at the end of this post. Note that the “Y” button toggles the Legacy controls, same as the original game.
Happy Gaming folks. Read the rest…

Given that Halo 3: ODST is an expansion, I’m sure that none of you were concerned about the control options, though I did want to post a quick confirmation that this game offers the usual settings seen in past games from the series. Read the rest…
Terrible Voice Acting Isn’t Raven Squad’s Only Issue

Raven Squad: Operation Hidden Dagger, the FPS / RTS hybrid for the Xbox 360, does not offer alternate control configurations.
I somewhat expected Legacy to be left out, although I’m a bit perplexed about the omission of Southpaw, and this is an example of a game where players really could have benefited from full controller customization due to the strategy elements and dual perspectives.

I just downloaded the Section 8 demo and much to my happiness it offers 8 different control settings which include Legacy, Southpaw and Legacy-southpaw!
It seems like TimeGate Studios have pulled through for us so now we can all enjoy this decent looking game when it comes out at retail in a few days.
Hopefully this will make up for the lack of controls that the recently released Wolfenstein offered.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but the recently released Xbox Live Arcade game Cellfactor doesn’t include any support for alt-controls. There is the standard y-axis inversion, though no legacy or southpaw thumbstick configurations. Read the rest…
No Alternate Controls in Velvet Assassin

[May 4, 2009]

Regrettably, Velvet Assassin, the recently released third person stealth game that chronicles the various escapades of a dying World War Two spy, does not offer any alternate control schemes (no Southpaw, no Legacy, etc.).
Supposedly, the pace is very slow and gameplay centers more on sneaking rather than heavy shooting. With that in mind, perhaps it won’t be too difficult for some of us to partake in the Nazi backstabbing fun without our normal control styles of choice - but that will depend on the individual player.
Thanks for the information, Jin.
Left 4 Dead Adds Legacy, Equals Love From Valve

After playing through the new versus maps and Survival Mode last night, I went to bed feeling quite satisfied with all the new content Valve has added to Left 4 Dead.
I awoke this morning and recalled that a certain Valve employee had suggested that Alt-controls’ members would be quite happy with the next update. It would be a shame if this was implemented two months ago only for us to notice now but better late than never as they say. We requested it and Valve delivered.
Although there is still no option to map the button layouts, I would like to thank Valve on behalf of us all for taking the time to add some more controller options for us, the often overlooked segment of the gaming population. Screen shot and an explanation after the jump.

Just overheard on X-Play, which I’ve got flairing away in the background, that a two-level Resident Evil 5 demo will be available on January 26th for the Xbox 360. If you recall, the first time this was released it was only available in Japan.
In case any of you missed SAKY’s coverage of this game, Resident Evil 5 does not support true Southpaw or Legacy schemes, however there are a number of presets to pick from, outlined here, complete with control configuration screenshots for your review.
Now the rest of you will have your chance to sample the game and test out the controls. Hopefully you’ll find one of the four presets to be comfortable, but please feel free to share your feedback on the play mechanics and let us know if you discover any issues with the controls.

Taking the size of the maps shown in this video I must admit that it all looks very impressive and it would seem that players can look forward to spending obscene amounts of time on this content. Below is the good info from the press release.
“Players will be challenged to achieve the fastest times possible on nine races across seven all-new and totally redesigned Time Trial maps. No guns, no cops, and no city: this is true aesthetics, agility and flow that will challenge any runner. This special DLC pack will be available for $10 USD or 800 Microsoft points. As an added bonus, all PLAYSTATION 3 Mirror’s Edge fans will be able to download an additional map for free.”
