One of our members, soulwarrior, has written an excellent post on the behalf of Alt-Controls.com and AbleGamers regarding the implementation of customizable controls at the firmware level.
I know that a number of you have mentioned the need for this, so now would be an excellent time to voice yourselves. If this is something that interests you (and why wouldn’t it?), please head on over to the PS3 Forums to lend your support.

For firefox I can install add-ons to enhance the browsing experience. Why should it not be possible to develop extension for PS3?
One of such an extension could be a button/stick remapping utility. -

I wonder what they would think if they were forced to play Southpaw with no ability to change the controls to their personal preference? The important thing to realize is that every player has a different idea of what’s comfortable for them, and should be able to change it to how they please. There’s no way one layout could possibly work for everyone.
Stupidest comment of the year: “People who need to play Southpaw are idiots, controllers aren’t left or right handed.”
I’m speechless about the pure stupidity!

What I always wonder is that technically we have the ability to adapt the consoles to our needs. In this special case it is even doable with not much effort as it can be done solely on the software level. But why do people ignore this and rather demand that we should adapt to a so called status quo.
