Dark Void

Capcom will be keeping us all busy in due course, with Resident Evil 5 on the way along with Dark Void, which is being developed by Airtight Studios.

If you like killing aliens, then you’re in luck. And you’ll be taking them out in mid air as well, thanks to the use of jetpacks. Throw this in with what they’re touting as a “vertical cover system” where you can take cover while scaling walls, and you’ve got yourself a weird hybrid between Gears of War and Shadows of the Empire.

If this interesting system is implemented properly, Dark Void has the potential to be a very unique gaming experience. However, if it’s executed poorly, this could be an exercise in frustration for many gamers, especially for us if our control needs are neglected.

This is another one that we will have to keep our eyes on as a community. I will likely be checking it out, because if a game lets me shoot things, it’s always worth a look in my eyes. It may be on the bottom of the pile for a while though in favor of Gears 2, COD 5 (yes, it’s COD5, I don’t care what Treyarch says) and Quantum of Solace.

The game is scheduled for release this year on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

According to a mod on Capcom Unity; Southpaw will be supported in all major titles from now on.

We’ll know for sure once Dark Void hits, apparently the head developer is left handed and the company is more geared toward listening to it’s fans and their needs.

Hopefully they’ll keep us in mind, as $60 is not a drop in the bucket.

PS - For anyone who played Crimson Skies on the original Xbox, this is by the same development team, which tells me the flight mechanics are going to be incredible.

This is great news from Capcom :-)
Hope that Resident Evil 5 will than also have southpaw. Played Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube & Wii and don’t want to miss the sequel.

    I hope RE5 has Legacy, but I doubt it…

Not a chance it will have legacy, though it will still be incredible (with a modded controller of course!)

RE4’s default movement was Legacy (with the exception of strafe which was non-existent in the game) but its aim was strictly mapped to the left stick (making it a strange hybrid of Legacy and Southpaw.) I actually had no problem with this as I moved through the game pretty smoothly. I’m sure Capcom will keep atleast this set up as an option for RE5 if it isn’t programmed as the default configuration.
