Gears 2: More Good News for Alt-Control Players

Many of you are aware of this not-so-shocking announcement: Gears of War 2 is slated to be released in November of 2008 on the Xbox 360.
This one will definitely be a stocking-stuffer for the 360 alt-control players and it’s been a refreshing change to be able to report some good news this week. It was starting to seem that Alt-Controls.com was just a bearer of bad news with so many games omitting Southpaw and/or Legacy recently.
This has been a good week for us all with Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on the way in a few weeks, and now we have the Gears sequel to look forward to as well. The first Gears of War was one of my favorite games of all time. The graphics, the foreboding environments, the fantastic orchestral score, and the chainsaw bayonet… what a gaming experience. And for you snipers out there, nothing beats the crunching sound of firing your Longshot and hearing Marcus shout ‘Ohhh Yeah!’ as you blow off the head of a raging Locust Drone from a distance. Anyone with surround sound knows what I’m talking about here.
So while its been a lousy start to 2008 for Southpaw and Legacy guys, things may be looking up.

February 22nd, 2008 at 4:46 amGood news. But I do remember a small issue while using the legacy set-up on GOW. While holding the run button, the right thumbstick was used for steering while running. So you had to use your left hand on the right thumbstick if you didnt want to just run in a straight line. Always seemed like a dissadvantge when other players would run away and around corners and I couldnt follow easily.
Does anyone notice this? -

But at the same time I’m glad the Legacy system is available (even if it’s not perfect) or I wouldn’t be able to aim comfortably.

February 23rd, 2008 at 1:05 amI think it was the same while revving up the chainsaw. You could only walk forwards and back with it revving up. You couldnt adjust left and right if required. Unless you used your left thumb on the right stick as descibed in your article. Using the method above was OK at the round start when you were rushing into the middle (power weapons) but in the heat of battle was more tricky.

February 23rd, 2008 at 5:49 amGood point. We basically need to align ourselves properly first and then rev the chainsaw up. It would be great if Gears 2 offered full customization. Being able to move the melee and running actions to the left or right bumpers would be very useful. Then we could use our index fingers for these actions and still have both thumbs on each stick. That would eliminate most of the awkwardness in Legacy.
