Left 4 Dead Adds Legacy, Equals Love From Valve

After playing through the new versus maps and Survival Mode last night, I went to bed feeling quite satisfied with all the new content Valve has added to Left 4 Dead.
I awoke this morning and recalled that a certain Valve employee had suggested that Alt-controls’ members would be quite happy with the next update. It would be a shame if this was implemented two months ago only for us to notice now but better late than never as they say. We requested it and Valve delivered.
Although there is still no option to map the button layouts, I would like to thank Valve on behalf of us all for taking the time to add some more controller options for us, the often overlooked segment of the gaming population. Screen shot and an explanation after the jump.
So looking at the screen shot (below) you will notice the Normal and Southpaw options plus the newly added “Turn Legacy On/Off” button. Simply select Southpaw or Default and then turn on Legacy which can give you either Standard Legacy or Southpaw Legacy. Nice!

April 22nd, 2009 at 4:27 amAlthought I never checked because I recently converted due to this magnificent game, I think in the PC version you can button map and maybe even use legacy (i’d have to check). I’ve removed the 360 turn for a mic on/off toggle. with the upper R bumper.

April 23rd, 2009 at 2:16 pmI bought this day 1 and after a couple months of waiting for the legacy update I assumed it was vaporware and got rid of the game. Guess I have to head out to the store and pick this up again now. Way to go Valve!

April 27th, 2009 at 7:08 pmNow if only they would do the same for The Orange Box. Was the addition of Legacy credited to someone here pleading? Or was it from the story I ran a while back about a guy named Stuart who asked for Legacy? A combination of both maybe?
Anyway…what will it take to get them to patch Orange Box, and (HOPEFULLY) make this the standard for future Valve games?
Thoughts?

May 13th, 2009 at 7:19 amThey do need to add this to The Orange Box. Does not make since that they would only support one game when they all use the same Source Engine. Legacy controls are what I consider first before buying a game. If they support one simple thing that does not cost them money, they will make more off us.
