Left 4 Dead has serious potential

Mike Booth’s Turtle Rock Studios is responsible for this game’s development, which is currently slated to be released on the Xbox 360 and PC. And it’s honestly my most anticipated game right now, which sucks because there is no set release date for the title.

Left 4 Dead

Now I love me some zombies, but for me the most appealing aspect of L4D is the multiplayer campaign and deathmatch modes. Turtle Rock Studios is really trying to create a new style of co-op by overrunning players with hordes of zombies, thereby forcing them to work as a team. This should make for genuinely unique co-op gameplay or at least cause a lot of squabbling amongst teammates. Good times. Adding to all this goodness is the AI monitoring system, which will generate zombies based on player/team productivity. This means that the enemies aren’t assigned to single locations on the map and players can’t determine where the zombies will come from, no matter how many times they play a level. This should give it good replay value.

Another interesting aspect of L4D is the 4 vs 4 deathmatch. In this mode one team plays as the humans and the opposing team plays as the “boss” zombies. The boss zombies have their own abilities, which is mentioned briefly in the developer interview below. Again, unique gaming ideas since opposing teams will not be the same.

Since Dead Rising I have not been able to get my zombie groove on again which is unfortunate because I love me some zombies. Hit the video below for the developer interview, which I highly recommend that you watch. There are a few gameplay videos that should follow afterwards. You can also head straight over to GameTrailers.com and take your pick of zombie video goodness in SD and HD.

On a side note, this link keeps me hoping that Left 4 Dead will have the control options we want. Read through the post and you’ll see that Turtle Rock Studios founder Mike Booth at least listens to the community.

    Wow…sign me up.

I remembering seeing a preview for this game on X-Play and it looked crazy. This video makes the game look even cooler.

Hopefully it will offer us some alt-controls!
