Mass Effect 2 Controls: Better, Not Perfect

mass-effect-2.jpg

After the release of Mass Effect back in 2007, there was a large uproar about the omission of Southpaw and Legacy controls. Now that the sequel has arrived, many are wondering if this had any impact.

To a certain extent, it has. This time around, BioWare has included a Southpaw option for the sticks and/or triggers. Legacy, on the other hand, is missing once again.

Props to BioWare for including more options this time – but in the third installment, we need to see support for Legacy and (you know what’s coming), full customization.

My wife is not going to be happy @ lack of legacy… she just yesterday decided to play ME1, after watching a friend play ME2.. and then she got REALLY frustrated that she couldn’t control the character. As much as I think all games should have ability to change stick control types… Games that have the potential to reach more than usual gamers need more options because newer to the game have a difficult time playing as is… Mass Effect’s story ability really appeals to my wife, but the controls are making her want to put it away for good. I had to finish her Eden Prime mission for her (she stopped @ the train).. luckily I was able to switch the invert. She’s plays legacy, non-inverted.. I forced myself to switch my settings from where she is to default/inverted back on Mech Assault 1, but she doesn’t play nearly as much as I did back then.. so it may take much longer for her to change over.. seems like she’ll have to unless BioWare updates the both Mass Effects, but she’d probably just give up if that’s the case.. and that’s a shame.

Another bizzare half assed southpaw config. How do we move with R stick and sprint with A button? Sadly I have only one thumb on my rigt hand. R3 for sprint/cover maybe? How difficult is it?
