Our final word on Haze: No Legacy in the full version

Sorry Legacy fans. It has been confirmed by Derek Littlewood of Free Radical Design that Haze will not offer Legacy controls in the retail version of the game.
The interview is posted over on the official Haze boards, and you’ll note that the first question is regarding Legacy controls. Now he has stated that Legacy could be included, depending on the reaction of gamers.
So this is a bit of a set back for us all - not just Legacy gamers. Remember, this game is published by Ubisoft. Many of you in this community fought hard for the inclusion of alternative controls in GRAW, and since then all of their games have been accessible to us all thanks to those efforts.
I’m already over on the boards as ‘Legacy_Player.’ I wasn’t able to sign up as 2Three (Ubi board names can’t start with a number). I hope that some of you will join me to see if we can’t get this fixed.
We all need to band together here, even you Southpaw guys should come over and show some support. Otherwise, the successful GRAW campaign will no longer be relevant, and the game developers that got us started with Legacy will likely not include this control style in future games - unless we all speak up as a community.

May 20th, 2008 at 2:47 pmYeah this is a big loss, not because HAZE is great but because Ubisoft has released it’s second game in two years that excludes needed control options. Yeah, two games in two years isn’t a bad track record but that’s two more than I would like to have seen. Fortunately for us all reviews point at a pretty mediocre game from Free Radical, although I haven’t read much on the multiplayer aspect, which was Free Radical’s strong suit.

May 20th, 2008 at 3:39 pmI tell ya, they better not do this with timesplitters 4 or else im gonna smash my 360 and wii to become a pc gamer and never have to worry about games coming out with no customization, seeing basically all pc games have full customization.

May 21st, 2008 at 11:49 pmAre you stickin’ serious???
I bought the game earlier today…and thankfully just came across this post. I have yet to receive any reply to my post on the Haze UBI forums on this very topic (just search my username of lusisfall in their posts). What’s the solution? Do we demand that Free Radical fix this with a patch??? Do we force Ben Heckendorn to create another specialized controller just for us that will swap this control axis? My unopened copy will be returned shortly unless there is someway that I can comfortably play this game… otherwise it’s off to Call of Duty 4 for me
What is legacy exactly?
All I want is to swap the turn and strafe controls to the other stick such as:
Move+Strafe & Look+Turn to Move+Turn & Look+Sidestep/Strafe

May 22nd, 2008 at 4:22 amWhy would you want to smash the wii? At least with this console I don’t have to worry about the controls.
I thought that with a console things would get easier:
- cheaper
- fast enough for any game released for this console
- no driver problems
Just plug in the game and enjoy. Now I see that this is only possible for the gamers using the standard controls
Think I am going to reconsider to upgrade my old pc.Any news whether Metal Gear on ps3 will include southpaw?

Legacy is where you use the left stick to move & turn, and the right stick to look up/down and strafe left & right. Sounds like that’s how you play.
@ soulwarrior
The Metal Gear Online Beta didn’t offer any alt-controls, so sadly no Southpaw. We’ll still check out the retail version, but demos and betas generally reflect the final game’s controls. Sorry…

the wii is impossible for games where i need legacy (1st persons)
I would like to get metroid but alas i cant play because the nunchck is for move and the remote looks around. i might be able to get used to it seeing its only one thumbstick and my mind would probably get less confused, but then playing halo after will feel strange. I think ill stick to mario galaxy and mariokart, seeing thats the only reason why i bought one.Real gaming can stay on my 360 thank you very much. Halo forever!
