QUICKIE - CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: ASSAULT ON DARK ATHENA

riddick.jpgJust poked my head out of the hole to take a quick look at the control options for the the new Chronicles of Riddick game, due out for XBOX 360, PS3, and PC. As is always the case some good and bad news here. First the good you say? Well, the game supports all four stick layouts as you’ll find in the below screen shots.

As for the bad, there seems to be no button customization. Don’t worry though, developers know whats best for us. Right? RIGHT?! Damn right they do! I’m mean sure, I don’t like that lefty-orientated schemes swap trigger functions but I digress.

The PC and XBOX versions appear to be releasing April 7 in North America with the PS3 version to follow May 7th. Feel free to check out the demo on XBOX LIVE.

Developer: Starbreeze Studios

Looks like we have another reliable, alt-friendly developer in Starbreeze

This is great news. The original version on the old Xbox lacked Legacy controls so good to see some progress being made!

Tried out the PS3 demo and I can confirm that the game has the same control options as the XBOX 360 version.

I just received a copy via GameFly but am sending it right back since it swaps the triggers with Southpaw. I play my shooters with the Southpaw control scheme but keep the primary fire on the right trigger.
When will all developers get it right and allow complete customization, or at least follow the trends of the popular shooters like the Halo and Call of Duty franchises. Developers will spend miilions of dollars and years working on a title but won’t take a few minutes to program a customizable control scheme that allows the gamer to set it up the way they want. Amazing!
