RE5: Gears/COD Style Controls?

It looks like Capcom might be working on a new control system for Resident Evil 5…
Via Kotaku:
The Resident 5 footage shown here at E3 is gorgeous. Jaw dropping, even. The game really looks like what people have been waiting for. What’s not to like? The criticism level against the game has been the fact it uses Resident 4’s controls. That’s not necessarily a bad thing if you liked Resident Evil 4! But as RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi pointed out:
“It’s possible that a lot of people who play Resident Evil 5 may not have played Resident Evil 4. But they might have played Gears of Wars or Call of Duty. Those are both games that I and our team really, really like. So don’t be surprised if at the Tokyo Game Show, the controls are different. For now, we have the control set up for RE4. I’m not confirming or denying anything, but we like to surprise people.”
I’ve been cautiously optimistic about RE5, as the graphics look great, but the controls had me a little worried since I was not expecting alternative controls to be included. But this could be very good news for us, as Southpaw and Legacy configurations may be on the horizon as well if Capcom ends up utilizing a control style similar to Gears of War. It could also be bad news as well because the possible new control style also has the potential to omit our play styles of choice.
We definitely have our eyes on this game now. Thanks go to SAKY for the tip.

You know they mention COD and Gears which have been two series that support alternative control styles but after playing Lost Planet I wouldn’t be surprised if Capcom whittles the controls down to a single “default” setup.

July 17th, 2008 at 5:58 pmI’ve contacted Capcom through many forum MODs concerning the inclusion of South Paw to upcoming titles such as Dark Void and Resident Evil 5.
I’ve yet to hear back, but once I do I’ll post the response in here.
Best,

August 23rd, 2008 at 2:07 pmHey guys, got some great news last week from Capcom Unity via private messages.
Sven (moderator at Capcom unity) responded to a PM I had sent him about supporting left handed styles of play, he said that Dark Void will be supporting Southpaw, and that future titles will be supporting us in an effort to include our styles of play.
I don’t have the PM on hand, but I’m stoked to say that two of my top titles on the horizon might benefit from a simple PM.
