More good news has come. Reader Nillaz was able to get early access to the Red Faction: Guerrilla demo and sent in a report on the controls last night. The game supports all four standard stick layouts for on-foot and vehicle controls, plus numerous button configurations.
This one hits retail shelves on June 9 - and by then, you should be about ready to move on from The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, another alt-control friendly title that released this week (in North America, that is…).
Thanks, Nillaz, for the info.

April 11th, 2009 at 10:57 amIt’s a little….different from the previous RF games in the fact that they’ve switched it from 1st to 3rd person. I was a little put off by this at first but I understand the reasoning behind it. The world is huge (open world), densely populated, and you can finally destroy EVERYTHING (no more tunneling through the ground though) and all of it happens in real time with real physics and no scripted destruction. Originally they built it as 1st person and found that people were dying all the time from falling debris that they couldn’t see coming so they switched it to 3rd person and it works much better. The demo is relatively short, but the controls work like a dream…Volition obviously spent a lot of time polishing them so everyone would be happy, with multiple button configurations for each thumbstick layout. If only every developer would be so alt-control friendly!
