Season’s Greetings from Alt-Controls.com
Festive colors, no? Anyway, we hope that you are all enjoying the holiday season and spending far too much time playing your new games.
It’s been a little slow around here lately - there hasn’t been anything out that needed immediate coverage and we’re all pretty up to date about the control options for the games of significance. Things should be picking up soon though as there are a number of cool games on the way in 2009.
Speaking of games, what did you guys and gals manage to snare this year? I was happy to receive Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty: World at War. I’ve already smashed through World at War and finished it last night. It was a pretty decent game in my opinion and I had quite a bit of fun with it. Albeit short, I thought that the campaign was a riot.
The levels taking place in the Pacific provided an interesting twist to the series, and being able to knife the banzai troops in the neck was a nice touch. Though I have to admit that I enjoyed the Russian Campaign a little more. I thought these levels were better, and found them to be more appealing visually as well. Although the Russian missions were essentially familiar territory for the series and didn’t really offer anything new or unexpected, in my opinion they provided some classic COD action that was executed very well.
As for Gears 2, I’ll be trying that out later today after spending about half an hour with the original for a quick tune up and to get back in the Gears frame of mind. *Update - Gears 2 is awesome.
And how about the rest of you, what games are you occupying yourselves with during this holiday season?

December 27th, 2008 at 4:51 pmI just finished Legendary and I really enjoyed it. Graphics aren’t up to much, but gameplay is really great I found.
Just got a hold of mercenaries 2 so I will check that out later today, if I can get off my online games (halo 3 and Mario kart wii) -

December 27th, 2008 at 7:52 pmSo you finally manged to track down Legendary. Yeah I thought it wasn’t too bad.
Mercs 2 on the other hand, I didn’t like but you might since you’re into the sandbox-style games like Saint’s Row.
I’m almost done Gears 2 and I just started it this afternoon. Pretty fun! But I think I enjoyed W@W a bit more.

December 28th, 2008 at 7:26 amI”ve finished Gears 2, but I’m still trying for the rest of the achievements. The horrendous match making sytem isn’t helping. I’ve also been playing L4D on co-op.

December 28th, 2008 at 2:55 pmwelcome to my world. 3 360’s in 2 years is totally unacceptable, people really need to get their @#$@ together between the p.o.s that is the 360 and the overheating of the ps3, I am thinking about going back to my Saturn

I found WAW to be a better game, apart from co op. They have done the online co op for gears 2 alot better, especially horde mode.
I don’t mind Mercs 2. Has a lot of easy achievements, though it isnt anything on saints 2 and GTAIV. -

December 29th, 2008 at 5:48 pmLittle big planet does look nice. Did you have heaps of trouble on Insane on GOW2. I hated that bit with the boats circling you. I also have Banjo, have barely played it. Let me know if you like it.

December 30th, 2008 at 2:49 amI’ve taken a break from GOW2 insane at the part where Dom finds what he’s looking for (no plot spoilers here). should recharge batteries and get stuck back in. You should play Banjo is a very good game, not your usual platformer but when you start getting stuck into the challenge’s it becomes quite deep as you design you vehicles.

December 31st, 2008 at 8:36 amManaged to snare Fallout 3 and CAD:W@W. Fallout 3 that is a giant time sink and I’m having fun with it. I ‘ll have to play the single player and zombie modes of COD:W@W as I am having no fun with the multiplayer. Oh and God of War 2 (yeah.), good stuff, liking the first a bit more but still a great game so far. Happy new year everyone!
