Shock of the Century: Activision Confirms COD5

Bet you didn’t see that one coming, now did you? Call of Duty 5 has officially been confirmed. Although we didn’t really need an official word on this since we all knew it was on the way.
In any case, this is what Activision had to say about the upcoming fifth installment of their prize FPS series, which is being developed by Treyarch:
“For [the next] Call of Duty, we’ll bringing the intensity of the recent Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare title to yet a new military theater to engage our significantly larger user base, which nearly doubled last year as new users came into the franchise.”
Ok. Sounds good, I suppose.
The biggest news of course is the fact that Infinity Ward is not handling the development duties this time around. And, it is very likely that 5 will be set in World War II…again. So while Activision claims they have doubled their fan base in the past year, largely thanks to COD4: Modern Combat, will new followers of the series be let down by Treyarch’s installment?
It’s a well known fact that gamers and fans of the series prefer the COD games made by Infinity Ward. Why? Well, they’re just better.
I thought COD3 was an alright game. It didn’t quite have the polish that 2 or 4 had, but it was decent, in my opinion. I’m excited to try out the next COD game even though I know the games by Infinity Ward will be much better. Many gamers will be skipping 5, and while I’ll be much more excited about the next COD game by Infinity Ward, I still think this upcoming title will be worth a look so I can get my fix until a better version comes along.
Alright Alt-Control players: Thoughts? Will you be returning to Treyarch’s battlefield, or passing until Infinity reigns again? Let us know.

But yeah, you and many other gamers are sick to death of WWII so it’s very surprising that Treyarch has decided to go back into the trenches, so to speak. It’s common knowledge that the majority of gamers are tired of the concept, and they have been for a while now.
As for COD 6, I tend to think that it will be a return to Modern Combat and then they’ll likely shake things up again after that. Future Warfare would be fine by me, but Infinity should be the ones to introduce that, IMO.

May 15th, 2008 at 4:02 amEven if I was sick of WWII games, I would touch a Treyarch game with a 10 foot pole. They did good ports though.

It’s too bad they’re doing the next Bond game and not Infinity Ward. Maybe Activision will have the developers rotate like they do for COD. That would be cool.
