TimeSplitters 2 in HD? Up to you

ts-hd.jpgRecently, developer Free Radical Design has been contemplating the re-release of their classic last-gen shooter, TimeSplitters 2 - in HD.

The TimeSplitters series is one of the best first person shooting experiences that you never had. These excellent games were sadly overlooked by many gamers in favor of bigger franchises from the era such as Halo and Medal of Honor.

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect (the third installment in the series) is probably one of my favorite shooters of all time. However, all three titles from the series provided a great FPS experience with excellent visuals and tight controls. The single-player campaigns were well-crafted and engaging, while the challenge and multiplayer modes could keep you occupied for months.

Throw in some British humor, quirky characters and monkeys to top off the solid game play, and you have yourself one of the most fun FPS experiences that you could ask for. It would be a real treat for loyal followers of the series if Free Radical decided to go ahead and re-release this game in HD, which would be available for download via the Playstation Network.

However, there are currently no definitive plans for this to occur. Free Radical would like to hear from gamers themselves before they go to all the trouble of polishing up a game if no one will download it. So, if you would like to see an HD reinvention of TimeSplitters 2, all you need to do is send an email to PSM3 Magazine to show your support, as they are behind the campaign for an HD version of this game. David Doak of Free Radical Design has confirmed that should this campaign garner enough support, a TimeSplitters 2 HD is very possible.

So, if this sounds appealing, you know what you need to do. Otherwise, you’ll have to stick to playing this classic shooter in standard definition on your PS2, Xbox or Gamecube. And who wants to do that if you could revisit this great game in glorious HD? Since all four stick layouts will be available, this is a game that we can all enjoy and it should not be missed.

    TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect are awesome games. I just wish I could retrieve my saves off my 64MB PS2 card!

    How could you not love a game with 100+ earnable characters? How could you not love battling a menagerie of zoo animals, a cast of wild-west characters, or a gingerbread man, a walking glove, and a fishbowl robot? Is it wrong for me to enjoy setting up matches of a dozen different fem-bots and only allowing flamethrowers? Oh the shrieking! Oh the humanity!

    Yeah, TimeSplitters are awesome.

    I agree with you 100%. I could go on for hours about how cool this series is. It truly is a hidden gem in the gaming world.

    Even my gf likes playing it with me, and she’s not really into games at all.

    Timesplitters 3 on xbox… best game ever (apart from halo). Man i spent hours playing that game online. I just wish it was compatible on the 360. Hurry up microsoft and get it working!!!

    Id definately buy TS2 if they remade it in hd, but why only ps3??? Why not 360 on arcade??? We all know both TS2 and TS3 had better graphics on xbox compared to ps2, and TS3 was way more popular over live than what ps2 had to offer. Come on Free Radical, remake it on 360 aswell!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I don’t know what’s with Free Radical these days, Mclovin… they seem to be favoring the PS3 heavily.

    Haze of course is a PS3 exclusive and if TS2 HD ever happens, right now it seems like it will only be available for the PSN. Doesn’t make much sense really, because they have historically been a multi-platform developer and when you think about it, their fan base is strictly FPS gamers. Well, the current system of choice for FPS fans is the 360. That is, if all you play are shooters (like me) you probably have a 360 and not a PS3.

    Time will tell what they do though, I guess ;)

    Any of the TimeSplitters would be great I would especially like to see Future Perfect so I can mess with the map editor in HD!

    I completely agree! The map editor was a blast, and it would definitely be nice to make some maps with HD graphics.

    Using the map editor in TS: Future Perfect, I made a number of additional story levels, and even did my best to recreate the layout of some classic GoldenEye 007 levels. It was tough getting the exact layout, but it was close, and I even set it up so the final objective was to blow up some canisters in the “bottling room…” :)

    I also recreated the Bunker as well.. that one worked out really well. I think I’ll pay a visit to the world of Future Perfect again tonight as a matter of fact ;)

    I’m also excited about TS 4. Hopefully that will feature a map maker as well.
