Update: PS3 Customizable Controls via Firmware Petition

First of all I would like to thank all the 68 persons who have already signed the petition “Customizable game controls at the firmware level for PS3″. It is still open and I would like to invite everybody who agrees with the message to sign it.

So far I have already sent an email to “webmaster@playstation.sony.com” to make SCEA aware of this petition.

This is the standard reply I got from them:

We appreciate your enthusiasm and continued support for our PlayStation(R) family line of products. As you may have guessed, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) receives great suggestions from our consumers, as well as from our own employees, and employees of our affiliates, on a daily basis.

SCEA is continuously engaged in extensive research and development in many areas, including without limitation, consumer toys and games, computer and video entertainment products, and other products for consumer marketplace. SCEA may have developed, or may in the future develop, materials similar or identical to those presented to SCEA by you. Due to the overwhelming submission of ideas, concepts, and designs for products and our continual research and development, SCEA is unable to accept ideas and inventions, which have not been requested by SCEA. In addition, we are sorry to tell you that you will not be compensated if a product that is similar or identical to your suggestion is produced. We hope you understand our position on this matter and we apologize for the inconvenience.

It basically means that SCEA will not take any suggestions from outsiders :( If any employee from SCEA reads this post and agrees with the message, please submit the idea to your internal suggestions database ;)

Next I will try to contact Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS), Sony Computer Entertainment, Incorporated (SCEI) and also Sony Computer Entertainement Europe (SCEE). I will keep you posted on any progress.

It’s very nice you’re doing this, very important. Hopefully someone from Sony takes notice. I’m a southpaw player myself and I’ve missed countless great games because of this. Latest being Socom Confrontation where I was getting ready to play with my clan that’s been going for years now, only to find out Slant 6 didnt support southpaw (or scout for that matter) and now I’m not even buying the game.
